The Protein Expression Facility (PEF) is a research lab that specialises in recombinant protein production, with state-of-the-art facilities and a team of highly skilled professionals that possess an extensive knowledge of the challenges associated with protein expression and purification.

The use of recombinant proteins in biological, biomedical and bioengineering applications is widespread. The production of recombinant proteins and subsequent purification and characterisation can be a complex, costly and time-consuming practice, especially for researchers with little or no experience. Institutions around the world are recognising the need to provide facilities and training for research groups requiring recombinant proteins.

Since its inception, PEF has played a critical role in producing hundreds of recombinant proteins, not only for groups within the university but also for interstate and international collaborators. PEF provides the complete infrastructure and training needed for recombinant protein expression, thus enabling research that is otherwise too costly and laborious for individual laboratories.

PEF is designed to advance the capabilities of research groups requiring recombinant proteins. We provide support to research groups in the following areas:
